At first light you remember Bob "Sketch" Carlson as the one with the shades and easy going persona. Additional insight to this man's creative career will show that he has tremendous talent.
Bob, caught doodling in class by his grade school instructor was immediately nicknamed "Sketch". He has worn that moniker to this day. The most visable display of his art these days appear as steel tattoos on many of the custom cars throughout our Southern California area. His pinstriping, whether it be on a bike or rod, has a distinctive signature of it's own. Many of us are very familiar with the Southside Axle Dragger logo...yes, Sketch, an Axle Dragger member, designed it. You can bet that he has enhanced the many cars he has owned over the years, whether it be a 55' Chevy, Model A coupe or 49' Merc to mention a few.
He has raced motorcycles, boats and a picnic basket full of different types of cars. Along the way, the recreational boat industry was wise to tap his talents as both a designer and engineer. In addition, he has left his signature at Kawasaki as a designer involving motorcycles and watercraft.
The quiet man, named Sketch, doesn't easily offer up his impressive accomplishments...which in many ways is just as refreshing and impressive as his work. Call him an artist, engineer or an illustrator...when you get to know Bob...you will easily call him one of the good guys.
